SKAKKAMANAGE [02 Jul 2006|03:38am]

So, I am normally not at all the type to do this, but here's the thing: I have fallen utterly in love with this Icelandic band, Skakkamanage, but I've only been able to ever find the two tracks they put on their MySpace and I don't even know if they released anything else, but I'm really hoping that if they did, someone could send it my way? I'd be more than willing to do a musical trade, but I'm really desperate to get my hands on anything more by them. Someone please tell me I'm not just following a trail that leads nowhere and help me out?

Beautiful Iceland ! [29 Dec 2005|11:41pm]

I was so proud in reaching Iceland !
After loving The Sugarcubes, Reptile, Sigur Ros I finally could see their country ! It's so funny when I thought that everybody in Iceland looked like Bjork !
They are NOT !
Expensive country though but I took lots of photos !
Just sharing them with you guys if you happen to go to Iceland, you'll know how the country would look like !
All photos taken by me.

Anyone like Icelandic choral music? [14 Dec 2005|01:40pm]
Hi folks,

I'm looking for a recording of Maríukvæði by Atli Heimir Sveinsson.

It was comissioned for Christmas by Rás 1 in 1995 and is utterly stunning.

Any ideas?

loksins kem ég út með upptökunni Sigur Rósar! [31 Oct 2005|08:37am]

my recording of the 23. Sept, 2005 Sigur Rós show in Madison, WI is at last available for download!

it's compressed in FLAC format, meaning that there's absolutely no loss in audio fidelity, as there would be with formats such as MP3 or Ogg Vorbis. i would prefer to keep all circulating copies in the highest quality available, so while you may make MP3s for your iPod, etc, please do not share them with other people - give them a full-quality CD instead!

in order to get this recording out to many people in a short period of time, i've chosen to distribute it through BitTorrent; essentially, you download a small file from me, open it with the BitTorrent program, and then download the concert from everybody else who's connected and down-/uploading. the more people downloading, the faster it goes.

download the Sigur Rós set here
download the Amina opening act here

cheers, and happy downloading!

recently i saw sigur ros and a smaller band called amina.
they were both sensational.
amina, though very good, only have their slower songs on their EP
and i was wondering, if anyone had some live recordings?
or if you know anything about where i could find them, that would be great.
thank youuuu.

Saell! I can't spell Icelandic letters on my comp, haha.
Anywho, letting everyoen know I've talked with the Icelandic metal band Potentiam and will be releasing a compilation CD of them quite soon here in America, with I hope a tour waiting in the wings. Haha I discussed the idea of touring with Sigur Ros with the band, since they have been longtime friends, but that would be too odd........

Anywho, about me.............I'm mostly Icelandic by blood and heritage, though never been there, love Icelandic bands such as The Leaves, Gus Gus, Sigur Ros (of course), and so on. Love the culture, music, every part of it. Feel free to add me by commenting in my journal, and look forward to many fun convos in here!

Hey [25 May 2005|07:49pm]

Has anyone ever heard of the weird Electronic(ish) band called "MUM" (with some sort of accent over the U).

I believe they're Icelandic.
They have some good songs, well I don't know if I'd call them songs, but they're cool.

I want to find some Icelandic music to listen to, and, well, I guess this is the best place to get suggestions?
Also perhaps a good site (or book) to help me teach myself Icelandic. I do not think I can find it available in a college here ( I'm in Dallas/Fort Worth area in Texas).

Anyway. Suggest away, please :)

[10 Oct 2004|11:21pm]

hello. I just joined. hip hurrah!!!!

To do an introductory landscape,

I am twenty years old and I've been playing cello since I was seven. I live in Vancouver, B.C Canada. I grew up singing Icelandic folk songs with my gramma because her mum, my langamma was born in Iceland. She was a singer and sang for the president of Iceland one year when she was ninety nine or something. She never stopped singing. I still play icelandic folk songs on my cello. They are sad and happy at the same time. I like that. And of coarse love Bjork, sigur ros, Mum etc. I would like the members of the Icelandic string octet (Bjorks string section) and Sigur ros' string section to write a book about playing with them (in english so i can understand). It could be a good book.

Also I play in a art baroque punk band called The Winks http://www.thewinks.net and sew alot and go to music school and play lots of shows and tour too. Enough about me and more about Iceland!!!

I have the bad taste magazine that my dad bought online for my sisters and I. It's great. My mum can still speak Icelandic. She sounds lovely speaking it. I love the way it sounds. Of coarse I plan to visit Iceland one day.

I used to have a little flag of iceland but it got lost when my grand ma moved out of her house. I like how the string players in sigur ros are amplified they sound like sharp knives. The Icelandic string octet sounds more like "bluberries".

ta ta for now!
Love Tyr

new music i purchased yesterday [04 Oct 2004|03:13pm]

This may well be my very first post on this forum, i've been lurking for a few months now. Anyway, i was shopping with my girlfriend in Bristol yesterday when we entered this great indie music store, facing me as i entered was 'Sigur Ros - Von', which just made me so excited, then going through the music, there was a listening section of new artists, in there i found an artist i'd never heard of but loved the album - Stafraenn Hakon - I snapped up two of his albums also - 'Ventill/Poki' and '...skvettir edik a ref' - they are the most lush albums i probably own - even more so than Sigur Ros. 'Von' is a suprisingly straightforward album, what suprised me the most was how similar it was to the third album, as opposed to their second. I guess my preference on Sigur Ros goes like this:

1. Agaetis Byrjun
2. Ba Ba / Ti Ki / Di Do
3. ( )
4. Von

I also saw the kids comic book which Mum done the music for, but my girlfriend stopped me, though i'll definetely pick it up within the next two weeks i think. :)
